Walk of Stars: next plaques confirmed
Birmingham’s Walk of Stars has been one of the most visible — and most photographed — projects along Broad Street for over a decade. The pavement-of-fame programme honours figures who have made a genuine contribution to the city and to the arts, sport, entertainment and public life that makes Birmingham what it is.
Westside BID supports the programme as part of our public realm investment, and we’re pleased to share an update on where things stand and what’s coming next.
Current state of the walk
There are now 44 plaques installed between Five Ways and Centenary Square, taking in the full stretch of Broad Street and the approaches to Brindleyplace. Each star is cast in solid brass and set flush into the paving, with the recipient’s name and a short description of their connection to the city.
Nomination reviews are carried out by an independent panel that considers cultural significance, public recognition and breadth of representation across heritage, geography and discipline. The BID provides administrative support but does not influence individual selections.
Confirmed additions for 2026
The panel has signed off two new plaques for installation this summer:
- Toyah Willcox — singer, actress and Birmingham-born icon whose career has spanned five decades of British music and television.
- Jeff Lynne — co-founder of Electric Light Orchestra and one of the most influential record producers and songwriters to emerge from the city.
Both plaques are expected to be in place by late July, ahead of the summer visitor season. We’ll announce the unveiling dates as soon as the installation schedule is confirmed.
Nominate someone
The nomination window for 2027 consideration opens in September. If there is someone you feel deserves a place on the Walk of Stars, the nomination form will be available on this site from the first of the month.
