Westside BID is the levy-funded business improvement district covering Broad Street, Brindleyplace, Five Ways, Centenary Square and Broadway Plaza. We represent around 850 businesses — from independent restaurants and hotel groups to offices, venues and retailers — and we use the levy to fund projects and services that benefit every one of them.
We were established in 2015 and have since operated through successive five-year terms (2015–2020, 2020–2025, and now 2025–2030 following a successful renewal ballot), each backed by a majority vote of the levy-paying membership.
Our work falls into four broad areas:
Better — We promote Westside as a destination through year-round marketing campaigns, a packed events calendar, and close collaboration with West Midlands Growth Company and regional tourism bodies. Roughly 120 events are delivered across the area each year.
Brighter — We invest in the public realm: improved street lighting, cleaner paving, seasonal planting, and landmark features such as the Walk of Stars. A well-maintained, attractive environment is good for business and good for the people who live, work and visit here.
Safer — Our Westside Wardens are on the streets seven days a week, and we work closely with West Midlands Police and the Hotel Watch radio network to help keep the area safe for everyone.
Cleaner — A dedicated deep-clean programme, rapid graffiti removal and coordination with Birmingham City Council’s street cleansing service keep Westside looking its best at all times.
We are accountable to our members, transparent about how levy funds are spent, and committed to making Westside one of the best places in the Midlands to do business.
